Windows XP - How to make a fake virus / How to crash a computer

I hate old computers at the school, that's why I always crash them. >:)
If you want to know how to crash them, then follow these simple instructions:

- Right click on the desktop
- New->Text Document
- Name it "evil"
- Double click on evil
- Copy and paste this code:

start evil.bat
evil.bat

Now, save the file as a .bat.

File->Save As->evil.bat

That's it.

Windows XP - Speed up game speed / performance

For all you gamers with lot's of RAM and a slow FPS(frames per second), there's a tutorial that will speed it up!

Just do these easy steps:

- Press Start
- Click Run
- Type in regedit and click OK
- Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Expand System
- Expand CurrentControlSet
- Expand Control
- Expand Session Manager
- Click on Memory Management
- Double click on DisablePagingExecutive
- Change the value to 1

This will make Windows XP use the RAM only and not the page file.

FireFox - Speed up FireFox

A lot of times, the great FireFox web browser tends to be very slow.
To fix this issue, just follow this easy guide:

- Open FireFox
- Type about:config in the Address Bar
- Filter network.http

Change the value of the following:

- network.http.keep-alive.timeout - 10
- network.http.max-connections - 48
- network.http.max-connections-per-server - 32
- network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy - 24
- network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server - 32
- network.http.pipelining - True
- network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - 32
- network.http.proxy.pipelining - True
- network.http.redirection-limit - 10
- network.http.request.max-start-delay - 2

Feel free to change these settings to test the value that gives you the best performance.

Speed up Windows XP

You can easily speed up Windows XP by disabling unwanted services.
To do this, simply follow these instructions:

- Click Start
- Click Run
- Type in msconfig and press OK
- Click on Services Tab

Here is a list of services that you can disable depending on what type of programs you are using:

* Alerter - Sends alert messages to specified users that are connected to the server computer.
* Application Management - Allows software to tap directly into the Add/Remove Programs feature via the Windows Installer technology.
* Background Intelligent Transfer Service - The Background Intelligent Transfer service is used by programs (such as Windows AutoUpdate) to download files by using spare bandwidth.
* Clipbook - ClipBook permits you to cut and paste text and graphics over the network.
* Error Reporting Service - Allows applications to send error reports to Microsoft in the event of an application fault.
* Fast User Switching - Windows XP allows users to switch quickly between accounts, without requiring them to log off.
* Help and Support - Allows the XP Built-in Help and Support Center to run.
* IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service - You don't need this if you have other software to create CDs.
* Indexing Service - Indexes contents and properties of files on local and remote computers; provides rapid access to files through flexible querying language.
* IP SEC - Manages IP security policy and starts the ISAKMP/Oakley (IKE) and the IP security driver. If you are not on a domain, you likely don't need this running.
* Messenger - Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This is how a lot of pop-up windows start appearing on your desktop.
* Net Logon - Supports pass-through authentication of account logon events for computers in a domain. If you are not on a domain, you don't need this running
* Network DDE - Provides network transport and security for Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) for programs running on the same computer or on different computers.
* NT LM Security Support Provider - Provides security to remote procedure call (RPC) programs that use transports other than named pipes.
* Performance Logs and Alerts - Collects performance data from local or remote computers based on preconfigured schedule parameters, then writes the data to a log or triggers an alert. If you don't need to monitor your performance logs, then you don't need this service.
* Portable Media Serial Number - Retrieves the serial number of any portable music player connected to your computer
* QOS RSVP - Provides network signaling and local traffic control setup functionality for QoS-aware programs and control applets.
* Remote Desktop Help Session Manager - Manages and controls Remote Assistance. If you are not using Remote Desktop you don't need this service.
* Remote Registry - Enables remote users to modify registry settings on this computer.
* Routing & Remote Access - Offers routing services to businesses in local area and wide area network environments. Allows dial-in access.
* Secondary Login - Enables starting processes under alternate credentials. This is what allows you to run an application as another user.
* Smart Card - Manages access to smart cards read by this computer.
* Smart Card Helper - Enables support for legacy non-plug and play smart-card readers used by this computer.
* SSDP Discovery Service - Enables discovery of UPnP devices on your home network.
* TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper - Enables support for NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) service and NetBIOS name resolution. This should not be needed in today's network environment.
* Telnet - Enables a remote user to log on to this computer and run programs, and supports various TCP/IP Telnet clients.
* Uninterruptible Power Supply Service - Manages an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) connected to the computer.
* Universal Plug and Play Device Host - Provides support to host Universal Plug and Play devices
* Upload Manager - Manages synchronous and asynchronous file transfers between clients and servers on the network.
* Volume Shadow Copy Service - Manages and implements Volume Shadow Copies used for backup and other purposes.
* Web Client - Enables Windows-based programs to create, access, and modify non-local files across the Internet.
* Wireless Zero Configuration - Provides automatic configuration for the 802.11 adapters
* WMI Performance Adapter - Provides performance library information from WMI HiPerf providers.

Windows XP - Optimizing startup / boot up with Microsoft Bootvis

First to start things off, you'll need to download Microsoft Bootvis.

Once you have downloaded it, install it.

Make sure that you have your other programs closed because this program will restart your PC in order to analyze the boot up time and what's delaying it.
Open Microsoft Bootvis and follow these steps:

- Click Trace
- Click "Next Boot + driver delays"

Your computer is going to restart, upon booting up again, don't open any program as it will mislead the program by adding an extra program delay in the report.

Once it's done, Bootvis should open by it's self, if it doesn't, then open it.
Go to Trace->Optimize System.

Your computer will restart again, but this time if you did the last step right, it should start optimizing upon boot up.

Windows XP - Speed boot up / startup

When you first get a new computer, you boot it up and you see that the boot up time is amazing, but then you start using the PC, you install a few programs, a an anti-virus, a firewall, you know, the normal things.

At this point, your PC is booting up so slowly that you just want to kick the electricity out of your PC.
Well don't worry, I've got a tutorial that might help with boot up time, I hope this helps.

- Click Start
- Run
- Type in msconfig
- Click on the Services Tab
- Check "Hide All Microsoft Services" by clicking on it
- Uncheck any services that you don't want ( don't uncheck your firewall or anti-virus)

Don't close msconfig.
Once you're done with the services, click on the Startup tab.
Again, uncheck any unwanted programs, but make sure you don't uncheck your anti-virus or firewall.

You may have noticed that sometimes the Start menu takes a very long time to show, or the All Programs menu takes a while to load.

To fix this problem, just follow these simple steps:

1. Click on Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regedit and click OK
4. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER
5. Expand Control Panel
6. Click on Desktop
7. Find MenuShowDelay
8. Double click it and change the value to 20, the lower the value the faster the Start menu will load.

If you're lazy and don't want to do all those steps, then follow these steps:

1. Click on Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regedit and click OK
4. Click Edit
5. Click on Find
6. Type in MenuShowDelay
7. Double click MenuShowDelay
8. Change the value to 20, the lower the value the faster the Start menu will load.

That's it, you're done.

Windows XP - Speed up performance for old PC users

If you have an old PC or a PC that has very little RAM, a bad video card or is just laggy, then this tutorial is right for you.

This tutorial is to help users optimize/tweak the Windows XP video settings to speed up performance.

Follow these easy steps to optimize your Windows XP:

1. Minimize everything
2. Right Click on My Computer
3. Select Properties
4. Click on the Advanced Tab
5. Under the Performance Group Box, click on Settings
6. Select Adjust for best performance
7. Click OK
8. Done.
